The Quest For Culture

For most young people, the questions are many: Why do we have borders? Who are the people on the other side of the mountain, and why is their way of life and language nothing like mine? What secrets do the symbols and forgotten languages on ancient walls hold? Why should we care about ancient sites, or crumbling artifacts that are just ruins of civilizations past?

But then the questions grow heavier, reflecting the walls we build between ourselves: How did a person who lived way back then, someone I’ve never met, end up deciding what my culture looks like today? Why do we bother with traditions and heritages of the past? And if we aren’t of the same "kind," why should their history matter to me? Why should I bother learning about people who don't look like me, speak like me, or even think like me?

We aren't the same, why should I care about their story?

These questions are the kind that expose the gap where prejudice starts and our mission steps in. This is why we lead cultural expeditions that take participants directly into the heart of histories, diverse cultures, heritages, and civilizations. Courtesy demands they tolerate it; CheckWorld helps them understand. We provide the context needed to understand the world’s global heritage and cultural diversity.

In celebrating the richness of traditions, our expeditions achieve two fundamental goals: fostering cultural literacy and building the global awareness and understanding essential for lasting peace.

For young minds who have only known the world through a window, we open the door to the tangible world. By leveraging this direct exposure, we transform participants into conscious individuals who see beyond borders: well-versed global citizens who value and respect cultural diversity. In the end, participants in CheckWorld expedition programs emerge ready to engage with the world with depth and mutual respect, leading as knowledge-rich thinkers fluent in the languages of history and culture.

‎"At such a formative age, children need to see that we are one. CheckWorld provides a safe yet deeply enriching window into different cultures, helping our members develop a global mindset before they even reach adulthood. Their commitment is exactly what we look for when expanding the horizons of the children in our care."  - ‎Nino Bakradze, ‎Founder, The Little Explorers Club, Tbilisi.

‎"CheckWorld offered our students a rare opportunity to engage with the world with nuance and intellectual maturity. By facilitating deep, meaningful interactions with global cultures, they help cultivate the poise and empathy we expect from our future leaders."

- ‎‎Eleanor Beaumont, ‎Founder and Head of School, Beaumont International College, London.
